An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess."

He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket.

The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn
me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week."

The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it
and returned it to the pocket.

The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back
into a Princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do ANYTHING you want."

Again, the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put
 it back into his pocket.

Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you
I'm a beautiful princess and that I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?"

The engineer said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time
for a girlfriend, but a talking frog, now that's cool!"

Just Stay

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside.

"Your son is here," she said to the old man.

She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened.

He was heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed.All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.

Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.

Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited.

Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.

"Who was that man?" he asked.
The nurse was startled, "He was your father," she answered.
"No, he wasn't," the Marine replied. "I never saw him before in my life."

"Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?"

"I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed."

The next time someone needs you ... just be there. Stay.

Pixar: Boundin'
---------------

Here's a story on how strange is
Life with its changes
And it happened not long ago.
On a high mountain plain
Where the sagebrush arranges
A playground south of the snow,

Lived a lamb with a coat of remarkable sheen.
It would glint in the sunlight all sparkly and clean,
Such a source of great pride
That it caused him to preen.
And he'd break out in high-steppin' dance.

He would dance for his neighbors across the way.
I must say that they found his dancin' enhancin',
For they'd also join in the play.

...

Then one day...

...

Then a-boundin' up the slope,
Came a great American Jackalope,
This sage of the sage,
This rare hare of hope,
Caused to pause and check out the lamb.

- Hey, kid, why the mope?

- I used to be something, all covered with fluff,
And I'd dance in the sunlight and show off my stuff.
Then they hauled me away in a manner quite rough
And sheared me and dumped me back here in the buff.

  And if that's not enough,
  Now my friends all laugh
  At me ‘cause they think
I look ridiculous, funny and pink.

- Pink? Pink? Well, what's wrong with Pink?
Seems you've got a pink kink in your think.
Does it matter what color? Well, that gets a nope,
Be it pick, purple or heliotrope.
Now sometimes you're up and sometimes you're down.
When you find that you're down,
  Well, just look around,
You still got a body, good legs and fine feet,
Get your head in the right place and, hey, you're complete.

Now as for the dancin', you can do more.
You can reach great heights in fact you can soar.
You just get a leg up and you slap it on down,
And you'll find you're up in what's called "a bound."
  Bound, bound and rebound.

Bound and you're up right next to the sky.
And I think you can do it if you give it a try.

First, get a leg up, slap it on down...

...

So, every year, along about May,
They'd load him up and haul him away.
And they'd shave him and dump him all naked and bare.
He learned to live with it, he didn't care.

He'd just bound, bound, bound and rebound.

Now in this world of ups and downs
So nice to know there are Jackalopes around.

Forgot to mention - The next two weekends comprise Apple Blossom.  If you're not familiar, this is an annual spring time celebration (think Spring Equinox and the absorption of pagan practices into christian/mainstream activities.)

Sbout the first part in April, the townsfolk put out their lawn chairs along the parade route "reserving their seat".  There is a bit of a competition though for who has the best Throne.  Then this coming weekend is the kids parade - pretty much every tyke in the community gets to walk/ride one of the longest parade routes in the region. (I know this from teaching marching band for wayyyyyyy tooo long). There are also some middle-school bands and various Junio Royalty from around the area.  The food court is almost set up in Memorial Park and I think the Carnival is about done as well along the water front. Typically the town paints various fruit on the streets and a general "beautification occurs".  Then next week - much eating, many activities and performances in various parks around town, lots of competitions along the theme of the parade (changes yearly).  Then next weekend - cruising by random college students, the Grand Parade, festivities etc.  East Wenatchee does a Classy Chassey car show and random other things.  You basically span the river with all the things to do.

it used to me (mid-90's) where people got drunk, danced nekked and slept in the parks, but they've cleaned that up a bit.  There is a HUGE contigency of law enforcement from all over the region and if you notice, most of them happen to be mid-to upper-twenties rookies who are enjoying the festivities themselves been drug busts and dui's and public disturbances and noise violations and the like. Think Mardi Gras Ag Style.

Most businesses close up early on Friday afternoon to avoid the traffic and the chaos.

And all because we have some blossoms and busy bees.....

One of those souls that I deeply care about, just renamed me F.W.C. for Fluffy White Cloud.

Wow.
Why didn't I think of that?

Since I'm a rather informal person, in my personal life, and since there's small likelihood anyone else will read this, I'll begin.

Norwescon 30 - haven't attended a con in about a decade.  Most conversations picked up as if I'd left the room and wandered back in.  Highlights - connecting with old friends and making 1 or 2 new ones. Wonderful scarab pendant that mimics the one on my shoulder. Being psychoanalized by one of the great literary minds of our time.  Low lights - con crud, or SARS or something along that line.

I am enjoying the connections to a former life.  Thank you for those that contributed.

More later.
